Nathan Oliveira, whose work will be on exhibit in our Spotlight Gallery from May 12 – July 1, was an American artist and prominent member of the second generation of the Bay Area Figurative artists. While he is remembered for his important role in the 1950s and 60s Bay Area Figurative Movement, European Expressionist movements were highly influential to Oliveira. He in turn influenced generations of artists, including his friend Lowell Herrero. Iconic Napa Valley artist Lowell Herrero turned his passion for living into an enduring work of art. From his home in Calistoga, Herrero traveled to Tuscany, Provence, and Spain, absorbing the lessons of their sensuous and vivid landscapes. Portraying plump figures in the lavender fields and sinuous groves of olive trees, his work defined Napa Valley’s popular image. Lowell Herrero, Origins of an Original, will be on exhibit in our Main Gallery from June 2 to August 19, 2018.
