  • Presented by Napa Valley Museum, in partnership with Arts Council Napa Valley and Visit Napa Valley, the exhibition includes significant works from outstanding art collections throughout the Napa Valley, many never shown in public, including artists such as Robert Arneson, Joan Brown, Marc Chagall, Roy DeForest, Stephen DeStaebler, David Ireland, Pablo Picasso, Cy Twombly, Peter Voulkos and William Wiley. Guest Curator: Ann Trinca.

  • Napa Valley Museum presents Jazzland and Other Stories a new exhibit of Edmund Ian Grant’s paintings, many of which were influenced by his musical and jazz background. The exhibit is presented in conjunction with Miles Davis: The Art of Cool (June 8-July 28). Jazzland and Other Stories is included in Museum admission. Don’t miss the special opportunity to meet the artist at the Reception with the Artist on Thursday, June 20 from 5:30-7pm.

Miles Davis: The Art of Cool

Napa Valley Museum, in partnership with Napa Valley Performing Arts Center at Lincoln Theater, presents Miles Davis: The Art Of Cool, on display June 8 through July 28 presented by Miner Family Winery and Miles Davis LLC. The exhibition will feature 35 pieces of original artwork by Miles Davis, on display at both Napa Valley Museum and Lincoln Theater, in addition to personal effects. The exhibition is sponsored by Miner Family Winery, Napa Valley Museum Board of Trustees, Dean & DeLuca, Napa Valley Community Foundation, Tulsa and Simone Fund, Opportunity Fund, Lambert Family Fund, Turley Family Fund and Kieran Robinson Wines. Admission is $10 for adults, $3.50 for seniors, $2.50 for children and free for Museum members.

Michel Fokine and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Ballet

Paganini was created by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff and Russian choreographer Michel Fokine. The one-act ballet is set to Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and premiered in London in June of 1939. War broke out and the ballet was ‘lost’ for decades. Festival del Sole and Napa Valley Museum present a Fokine and Rachmaninoff Ballet July 6-July 31, 2013. The exhibit in the Museum’s Spotlight Gallery features photographs, designs and music from the 1939 production and stories from the original ballet dancers in the production.

A Date with the Devil

Napa Valley Museum presents A Date with the Devil, a juried exhibition of new work and a performance of Igor Stravinsky’s masterpiece The Soldier’s Tale.(L’Histoire du Soldat) in partnership with Music in the Vineyards. Based on the legend of Faust, the man who sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for riches, power, youth, wisdom, the legend takes various forms. A Date with the Devil reminds us that who we are is ultimately defined by the choices we make. Guest curator: Jennifer Garden.

Wall Sculpture-Alan Shepp

  • Napa Valley Museum presents an exhibition of Alan Shepp’s bas-relief wall sculptures, the images of which are historical, biographical and contemporary.  His “canvases” are slabs of slate, with each unique sculpture an amalgam of shape, texture and color.
  • Alan Shepp is a multimedia artist who creates large scale sculpture and public art.  His art can be seen in the collections of the Walker Art Center, Oakland Museum of California, Crocker Art Museum, Museo Italo Americano, di Rosa, and numerous corporate collections.
